Taking Counselors from Called to Equipped

God’s calling is the first and foremost critical necessity when it comes to being a well-trained and equipped counselor. Without God’s calling, one shouldn’t be in the field. We have no issues with licenses, credentials, or the like, but one counseling with only these and without the calling of God is nothing compared to one counseling with God’s calling. It is His calling that is the most foundational aspect of being a counselor and only then should we build upon this to become well equipped counselors. God has given His calling to counsel to His Body.

Furthermore, the simplistic term “mental health” is a straw man because God has made people vastly more involved than simply having a mind. Most notably, He has created people with a spirit. Therefore, from the outset there is no one better than a called Christian to counsel. Unfortunately, for decades now Christians have been told to leave counseling to the professionals. Well, we say no more! Who says Christians can’t learn therapeutic skills? Who says Christians can’t attain clinical knowledge? We certainly do not. This is why we believe Christians called by God and equipped to counsel can be the greatest counselors on earth!

Therefore, we train and equip those called to counsel within the church to be biblically-based, clinically-informed, and whole-person oriented. We take godly wisdom from all realms God has made and given to us, whether it be the Bible, science, or psychology. If it is true, then it’s true!

Through our R.O.C.K. Counseling training and equipping course we begin with our fundamental philosophical model of being created in the image and likeness of God as whole-persons being formed as spiritual, relational, emotional, personal, mental, physical, and eternal beings. From there, we take trainees through the four pillars of counseling that every equipped counselor needs to help people in the ways they need most.

The four pillars of the R.O.C.K. Counseling Curriculum are:

RESTORATION

We equip you with the biblical truths and the art and science of regeneration, healing, and re-building people back from being lost and broken and from experiencing trauma, tragedies, and the like.

ORDER

We thoroughly take you through God’s design for creation, work, people, marriage, and family and the ways in which they are meant to interact and supplement one another.

CALLING

We teach you how to identify calling, purpose, and meaning within people and the unique ways they have been made within their own set of strengths, weaknesses, and experiences that all lead them by God’s sovereign hand to the part they are meant to play in His larger story.

KINSHIP

People have been hard-wired for connection by God. Here we get further into the purpose of relationships and specifically train you on how to help, heal, and reconcile relationships. We are meant to know and be known, so in this section of the curriculum we also equip counselors to know how to help people establish healthy dynamics, learn good communication skills, and maintain deep, fulfilling, and intimate relationships.

Through our course program and curriculum, you will become trained as a Christian Therapeutic Counselor and then with additional requirements can become R.O.C.K. Counseling Certified.
