Josiah Riley

My name is Josiah and I’m stoked to be a part of ROCK Counseling Ministries as a Christian Counselor! I love being outside whether that is on the crag, the trail, mountain bike! Being outside, experiencing a real world outside my head, and putting my body to the test is an important pillar of my own mental and spiritual health.

For the past nine years I have discipled and counseled both peers and younger men as well as leading small groups and Bible studies of various different sizes and scopes. For me, nothing is more important than the kind of people that we are becoming. My desire has never been to give people a lot head knowledge. I stand with Paul the apostle when he says that he desires us to know love that surpasses knowledge. This love cannot be known in the head alone, but must be experienced by the whole person. It permeates the mind, soul, and body and is the kind of love that frames all of our lives. 

I believe that God is desiring to restore His image in every human being. He desires  our freedom in mind, body and soul. We all have different schemes for trying to make life work for us on our own terms. Broadly, I see that these schemes tend to involve either forcing truth on ourselves without ever being honest with ourselves, or likewise to be honest with ourselves to the point where personal honesty becomes truth. Neither of these will work in my opinion. We need to acknowledge what is inside and outside. If we aren’t honest, truth cannot meet us. If there is not truth higher than personal experience, than we have no such thing as progress. 

Transformation happens at the place where truth and honesty meet. I am after the real thing…. both in my life and in yours.
